Electric Beach

Entry and exit are from a sandy beach that can have moderate surf, especially during winter months. Time your entry and exit between wave sets. The beach has a moderate slope, and there can be a shore break during higher surf conditions. Be prepared for a longer surface swim to reach the main dive site area.

The dive site is accessible via a short walk from the parking area to the beach. The beach is sandy but relatively narrow. From the beach, it's a moderate surface swim (approximately 100-150 yards) to reach the outflow pipes.

The warm water outflow attracts abundant marine life including large schools of fish, spinner dolphins (frequently seen in the morning), green sea turtles, and occasional eagle rays. Fish species include butterflyfish, surgeonfish, goatfish, and occasional reef sharks. During winter months (December-April), humpback whales may be heard and sometimes seen in the distance.

The main feature is the pair of large warm water outflow pipes extending from the power plant. These pipes create an artificial reef environment with temperatures 10-15 degrees warmer than surrounding water. The area includes a mix of sand and coral reef structures, with depths ranging from 20 feet near shore to 60+ feet further out. The reef slopes gradually away from shore with various coral formations and sand channels.

Free parking is available in a dedicated lot across from the beach. The lot is of moderate size and can fill up on weekends. Additional parking can be found along the nearby road, but be mindful of areas where parking is prohibited.

Basic facilities include restrooms and outdoor showers. There are no food vendors or equipment rentals on site, so come prepared with all necessary gear and refreshments.

Moderate to high, especially on weekends and during good weather. The site is popular with both divers and snorkelers due to the diverse marine life and frequent dolphin encounters. Early mornings typically offer the least crowded conditions and best chances for dolphin sightings.

Be aware of boat traffic, as fishing and tour boats frequent the area. Strong currents can develop, particularly when heading north from the outflow pipes. The outflow pipes discharge very warm water that can cause thermoclines and slightly reduced visibility directly around the discharge points. The site is exposed to western swells, which can create challenging entry and exit conditions, especially during winter. Respect marine life, particularly dolphins - observe from a distance and do not attempt to touch or chase them.
