Goleta Beach

Entry and exit are from the beach. The sandy bottom and usually calm conditions make for easy entrance and exit points.

The dive site is easily accessible from the beach. A short surface swim is required to reach the main diving area.

While not as diverse as some offshore sites, Goleta Beach offers sightings of various local species. Divers might encounter halibut, sand dabs, rays, and occasionally octopuses. The pier pilings also attract various fish species.

The site features a gently sloping sandy bottom with some scattered rocky areas. Artificial reefs have been placed to enhance marine life.

Ample free parking is available at Goleta Beach Park, close to the entry point.

Goleta Beach Park offers restrooms, showers, picnic areas, and a restaurant. There's also a pier which can be used as a reference point for navigation.

Moderate throughout the year. The beach is popular with locals for picnicking and swimming, but diving activity is typically modest. During weekends, you might encounter dive classes using the site for training. The underwater area is expansive enough that divers can easily find space away from others.

The nearby pier creates boat traffic and fishing activity; maintain distance from the structure and be aware of fishing lines. After heavy rains, water quality can be affected by runoff from nearby Goleta Slough. Visibility can change dramatically based on conditions and seasons. The entry and exit can be challenging when surf is present. Be aware of swimmers and other beach users, particularly during summer months when the beach is busiest.
