South-facing cove protected by the Channel Islands and Point Conception. North through northeast swell is fully blocked. West through west-northwest wraps with moderate energy. South and south-southwest see minimal exposure, with southeast following at low levels. South swell is shadowed by the islands, resulting in generally calm conditions year-round. While typically placid, a steep south swell can thread the needle between islands, surprising divers with sudden surge.
