About This Site
Van Damme State Park offers one of Mendocino County's most beginner-friendly dive sites, with a protected sandy cove and gradual depth profile. The Little River flows into the cove, and while this can reduce visibility after rain, it also creates a unique estuarine environment. The kelp forests here are particularly lush, and the easy beach access makes it popular for training dives.

Southwest-facing protected cove ideal for beginners. Headlands on both sides significantly attenuate swell from all directions. S and SSW swells refract into the cove at moderate exposure. SW is attenuated by the cove geometry. W through NW are well blocked by the northern headland and coastal angle. One of the most protected sites in Mendocino County. River runoff affects visibility after rain.
