Wharf 2

Entry and exit are from Del Monte Beach adjacent to the wharf. The protected location typically offers calm conditions with minimal surf, making it ideal for newer divers.

Very easy access with a short walk from the parking area to the beach adjacent to the wharf. Gear can be unloaded close to the entry point at Del Monte Beach.

The wharf pilings create an artificial reef environment rich with marine life. Common sightings include various rockfish species, perch, lingcod, cabezon, and colorful nudibranchs. The pilings themselves are covered with invertebrates including anemones and sea stars. Harbor seals and sea lions frequently visit the area.

The site features wharf pilings extending to a maximum depth of around 45 feet. The bottom is primarily sand with some scattered rocky areas. Visibility often improves as you move away from the immediate wharf area. The sandy bottom slopes gradually, allowing divers to easily control their depth.

Ample paid parking is available in the adjacent lot and along Municipal Wharf 2. During weekdays, finding a spot is usually easy, but weekends can fill up quickly.

Public restrooms are available on the wharf. Numerous restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Monterey Bay Dive Center is nearby for air fills or rental equipment.

Moderate during weekends and summer months. The site is popular for training dives due to its protected conditions and easy access. The underwater area is large enough that divers can spread out once away from the entry point.

Be aware of boat traffic around the wharf, particularly fishing vessels returning to harbor. The bottom can sometimes have poor visibility due to silt, especially after rain or during busy periods with multiple divers. Fishing is active from the wharf; watch for lines and hooks. The area between the pilings can sometimes experience stronger currents during tidal exchanges.
