Dive Site Guide for Black Rock

Entry & Exit

Enter from the beach and swim out to the rock formation. Exit by swimming back to the beach. Watch for currents and stay clear of boat lanes.

Access

Shore dive with entry from the sandy beach in front of the Sheraton hotel. Be aware of cliff jumping activity and boat traffic.

What You'll See

Green sea turtles, rays, monk seals, parrotfish, triggerfish, and occasional small sharks.

Underwater Topology

The site features a large black lava rock formation with steep drop-offs, underwater caves, and some coral growth.

Parking

Parking is available at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa (paid) or in nearby public parking areas (limited).

Restrooms and showers available at the hotel. Dive gear rental and shops are located nearby.

Crowd Factor

High, due to its location on a popular beach, cliff jumping, and beginner-friendly access. Summer months see significant crowds of divers, snorkelers, and swimmers.

Look Out For

Watch for cliff jumpers and boat traffic. Currents can strengthen near the drop-off. Visibility may drop with sediment from beach activity. Stingrays in sandy areas; shuffle feet.

How to Find It

From Lahaina, take Highway 30 north to Ka'anapali. Turn left onto Ka'anapali Parkway, then follow to the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. Park in the hotel lot (paid) or nearby public areas, then walk to the beach entry in front of the hotel.
