Entry and exit are from the dive boat. Most operators use descent lines due to potential currents. Advanced certification and experience with deep diving is recommended due to depth and often challenging conditions.

Accessible only by boat, with several dive operators offering trips from the mainland. The boat ride is typically 1.5-2 hours, depending on departure location. Some Catalina-based operators also run occasional trips to the site.

The site is famous for its rare purple hydrocoral (Stylaster californicus), which forms brilliant purple branches in deeper, more protected areas. Other attractions include large sheephead, schools of blacksmith, garibaldi, lobster, and various rockfish species. The nutrient-rich waters occasionally attract larger pelagics like sea lions, bat rays, and even sharks.

The site consists of a series of underwater pinnacles and ridges rising from the ocean floor. The main structure ascends from about 140 feet to around 60 feet below the surface. The formation is covered with colorful invertebrate life, including the signature purple hydrocoral, which is primarily found between 80-120 feet. Multiple pinnacles create a complex underwater landscape with walls, crevices, and sheltered areas to explore.

As a boat-only site, parking is available at the harbors where dive boats depart on the mainland, typically Long Beach, San Pedro, or Dana Point. Most offer paid parking with day rates.

Facilities are limited to what's provided on dive boats. Most charter operations offer basic amenities including freshwater rinse, restrooms, and light refreshments.

Low to moderate, as conditions and depth naturally limit the number of divers. Additionally, boat capacity restrictions and the relatively remote location prevent overcrowding. During peak summer season, you might find multiple boats at the site, particularly on weekends with favorable conditions.

Strong and unpredictable currents can develop with little warning, making this site suitable only for experienced divers. Depth requires careful gas management and decompression planning. Surface conditions can change rapidly, especially in afternoon hours when winds typically increase. The purple hydrocoral is extremely fragile and protected; divers must maintain excellent buoyancy control and appropriate distance. Weather and sea conditions often determine accessibility; many scheduled trips may be canceled due to conditions.
