Fisherman's Cove

On days with mild surf, the entry is particularly beginner-friendly. Exiting the water is just as easy, with the sandy beach providing a stable platform for removing fins and other gear.

The dive site is easily accessible from the beach. Once parked, divers can follow the paths leading down to the beach. The main access point is via a staircase located at the end of Cliff Drive, which provides a straightforward route to the sandy beach. This makes it relatively easy to carry gear and enter the water.

Fisherman's Cove is teeming with marine life, making it a favorite spot for underwater photography and marine biology enthusiasts. Divers can expect to see a variety of fish species, including garibaldi, kelp bass, and opaleye. The rocky outcrops and kelp forests provide habitat for lobsters, sea stars, and anemones. Additionally, it is not uncommon to encounter rays and octopuses, adding to the site's biodiversity.

The underwater topology of Fisherman's Cove features a mix of sandy bottoms, rocky reefs, and kelp forests. It's advisable to arrive early to secure a spot. Metered parking is also available closer to Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), providing an alternative for those who can't find free parking nearby.

Fisherman's Cove has limited facilities directly on-site. However, there are public restrooms and showers available at Heisler Park, which is a short walk from the cove. Divers should plan to bring their own food and drinks, as there are no concessions or stores immediately adjacent to the dive site.

Moderate during weekdays and higher on weekends. The site is popular with both divers and snorkelers. Early morning dives typically offer the least crowded experience. The site sees steady traffic throughout the year but peaks during summer months.

Be cautious of fishing lines near rocky outcroppings, as the area is popular with shore fishermen. During entry and exit, watch for submerged rocks that can be hazardous at low tide. Snorkelers and paddle boarders frequently transit the area, so use a dive flag and be vigilant when surfacing. When diving during large swells, be aware that surge can intensify in narrow channels between reef structures.
